Family Court Process
The Family Court process consists of many steps, including:
- Preparation of initial Application and Response documents
- Extensive disclosure of financial and non-financial documents
- One or more case conferences (short court hearing to advance the proceeding)
- Interim motions (i.e. to change temporary custody & access arrangements)
- A settlement conference (short court hearing aimed at promoting settlement)
- A trial management conference (setting the timelines for a trial on any issues that did not settle)
- Preparation of documents and witnesses for trial
- Trial (often lengthy)
- Appeals of the trial decision, if necessary
